From the time I began my photographic journey. I have always been interested in the different lives and paths of women. Even in the face of cultural diversity and the ever changing and evolving roles women play, there have always been the common threads that bind us all.. mother, hearth, femininity, sexuality and all the things that are beautiful, complex and challenging that go with it. No place is this better illustrated than in the woman's place in the Hindu world. These images mark that journey through the lives of some amazing women I met in India and Indonesia who so graciously welcomed me into their world.
The balinese live their life as one big ongoing ceremony involving prayer, offerings, sacrifice, ritual cleansing and their daily chores. Bali is a place that has one foot in the western world and the other deeply connected to its hindu animist roots. The roots are deep. I think it shall always remain this way.. These are some images from the 2 summers I spent living on the rice paddy fields. Lodtunduh is a village of about 125 people and I was blessed enough to have been invited to share in so many amazing moments with the loveliest people I have ever met.
India is a land of contradictions. You can walk down the street and see things that will shake your western sensibilities to the core and turn the corner and see something so astoundingly beautiful you may weep for joy. India is the land of the unexpected and anything can happen..that is its magic. Here are some images from my time in Gujarat and Rhajistahn.
